Queensland

Queensland's Office of the Information Commissioner (OIC) theme for the Asia Pacific Privacy Authorities’ Privacy Awareness Week (PAW) 2010 is “Privacy: Protect and Respect”. PAW will take place from 2-8 May. The Information Commissioner, Julie Kinross, encourages agencies and individuals to hold activities to celebrate PAW and says: “PAW provides an annual opportunity for Queenslanders to promote a culture that protects and respects the privacy of an individual’s personal information.”

OIC is assisting public sector agencies and members of the community to promote PAW in 2010 by providing a number of resources. PAW posters have been sent to local government councils, libraries, state departments, universities and government owned corporations for display in public areas of public services. An electronic PAW poster image which can be used as a computer screensaver is available for download from the OIC website, www.oic.qld.gov.au/events, along with an audio podcast. OIC also has an on-line identity theft self-evaluation tool for anyone who wants to see how theft proof they are. These resources will hopefully prove useful for everyone in Queensland as we are all affected by privacy issues.
